We are the only riding school in the area to have our own Racewood Dressage simulator, the most advanced of its type in the world.
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Horse Care & Management plus
training towards The British Horse Society's Stage 1 & 2. The course will also include training towards The British Horse Society's Preliminary Teacher Training award which is the first qualification required to become a riding school instructor. This is a 2 year full-time study programme based at Carrington Riding Centre.
Brief Description of the Course:
This course provides the opportunity to study at level 3 (A level equivalent) for students who wish to develop a comprehensive understanding of animal and equine science in relation to equine management – encompassing practical techniques, academic knowledge and technical skills. It is a popular option for both school leavers and successful Level 2 Diploma students. This course offers students either a direct route into industry in a practical setting or a valid route into higher education with the opportunity to achieve UCAS points on completion with a distinction profile. The course incorporates a mix of practicals, classroom lectures, industry visits and case study exercises.
The Equitation option allows students to develop their riding and training ability both in the saddle and from the ground. This route is practically demanding and we require students to be enthusiastic and passionate about horses. All students can expect to ride in 2-3 sessions per week.
BTEC Level 2 in Horse Care and Management
We will also be working towards The British Horse Society’s Stage 1
2 GCSEs (Grade D or above). Students will be expected to be able to demonstrate some prior knowledge and experience of working with, handling and riding horses. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE A 14 STONE WEIGHT MAXIMUM FOR ALL RIDERS. All riders will be weighed at our discretion.
This course is for those who wish to seek entry into employment in a variety of types of work, such as riding stables, stud farms, livery stables and ancillary industries.
Students will gain work experience at Carrington Riding Centre by undertaking yard duties during riding school hours. Students will also gain work experience through their core module : Work experience in the horse sector.
